We are an American family which has lived for more than 40 years with the problems and challenges presented by diabetes. More than 30 of those years we have lived with it in Germany. From our own experience, we know how difficult it is to handle the fears of diabetic complications. Dr. Jeffrey Schevitz has had type 1 diabetes since 1958 and has been using an insulin pump since 1988. In every phase of his life as a professor, research scientist, family therapist, and as a father of three children it was a challenge to maintain his diabetes under control. We have learned to adapt our family matters, our professional life, our food and our healthy daily routines accordingly and still have a lot of fun together. We love skating on Hopfen Lake in winter and rowing on it in summer. Riding a bike, inline skating, walking and mountain hikes are other activities which we enjoy together. Jeff plays the trumpet and Bea paints.
